As we move further into a new year, at DotCom Magazine we look at some of the up-and-coming bands, artists and music we feel you should be looking to check out over the coming 12 months. We have tried to highlight different bands and artists from a wide range of genres and styles to appeal to a variety of different tastes and preferences.
Jade Bird
Jade Bird is a 21-year old singer-songwriter who was raised originally in South Wales. Her debut EP entitled Something American, was recorded in Woodstock, NY State and she has recently signed to Glassnote Records, the home to another British band, Mumford and Sons. Her voice evokes memories of early Alanis Morrisette and Patti Smith and she has a sound that merges the best of indie pop with all things Americana. She’s already had a lot of attention for the singles Love Has All Been Done Before, Uh Huh and I Get No Joy. Watch this space as she continues to progress and increase.
Fuzzy Sun
Fuzzy Sun are a five-piece band based in Stockport who specialize in glossy indie-pop with tinges of psychedelic. 2019 is looking great for the band as they will be performing as support for Blossoms at a huge show as well as with the indie-pop darlings The Wombats. Their most recent release is called Heavy and is accompanied with a video featuring footage from their most recent live shows.
The Snut
The Snut hail from the West Lothian area of Scotland and created a huge buzz for themselves in 2018, finishing the year with a series of sold-out dates. They released a single called Manhattan Project back in September and are playing at the Mad Cool Festival and SXSW. Definitely one to watch.
Ten Tonnes
Ten Tonnes, is also known as Ethan Barnett, sharing a name with one George Ezra Barnett, who happens to be his older brother. Based in Hertford, the 21-year old has been mentored by Hugo White from The Maccabees. His first EP was released independently and called Lucy. Pretty soon after that, he was taken on by Warner Brothers and is looking to release his debut full-length recording in April. His biggest release to date was the rather brilliant Better Than Me. Although he should not be taken to be just a clone of his brother, he does play the guitar, does sing and writes his own folk-tinged music.
Indoor Pets
Indoor Pets were called Get Inuit, but since the name change it hasn’t affected their take on a genre that they refer to as dirty pop. The Indoor Pets debut album is set to be released on the 8th of March in 2019 on the world-famous and renowned Wichita Records. The most recent release from the band is Being Strange.
