Kevin, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to answer our questions about leadership and entrepreneurship.

Kevin, please tell us about Morrison Medical. What is the elevator pitch?

Morrison Medical is one of the nation’s oldest manufacturers and suppliers of emergency medical equipment. For 50 years, we’ve served paramedics, first responders, fire and rescue personnel, emergency room personnel and acute care facilities with a wide range of patient transport, restraint and immobilization products.

What is the one thing that makes Morrison Medical great?

When an EMS worker or fire fighter is out on the job, it’s a high pressure environment. Time is of the essence and the stakes are high, so it’s paramount that the medical products they rely on are high quality and dependable. One thing that makes Morrison Medical great is the trust people have in us, because our brand has made superior EMS products for half a century and we’ve always stood behind them with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. People look for the Morrison Medical brand for those reasons.

Kevin, Please tell us what is the key to being a great entrepreneur?

I see my role as a champion of the brand. I’m interested in hearing our customers’ thoughts and finding ways to translate their needs into our products and services. I’m always listening and receptive to fresh ideas, approaches and new ways of doing things, as long as it leads to an improvement. I think that’s key in this ever-changing world.

Morrison Medical has been in business since 1970. What is the secret to running a successful business for so long?

For us, the secret is customer service. I like to repeat the words that my friends at Cameron Mitchell Restaurants live by; “The answer is yes, now what is the question?” We genuinely and truly value each and every customer we work with and consider ourselves fortunate to have built so many wonderful long-term relationships over the years. Our customers say we are a pleasure to work with and that’s always our goal!

Morrison Medical has been a proud American manufacturer since 1970. That’s one of the things that the company is known for. What is the one thing that you, as a person, want to be known for?

I want to be known for doing things the right way, with integrity and putting people first. That’s really what it’s all about, for me.

As you have continued to be a leader in the field for 50 years, what is the one most important thing to keep in mind at all times?

If you visit our website you will see over 150 straps, splints, backboards and similar items, but at our core, we are a company that’s about the care and rehabilitation of people in their hour of need. It is our privilege to be there for them at a difficult time, and to be there for those who take care of them. We take that privilege seriously, and we take pride in helping people when they really need it.

When hiring quality employees, what is the one most important thing you look for?

Morrison Medical has been blessed with the ability to retain long-term team members, and their accumulated wisdom is of great value to us. When we grow our team I look for individuals who are self-motivated, positive and have a service-based mindset because it’s difficult to teach those qualities as they tend to be innate.

What is your “Why”? Why do you get up in the morning?

I love the challenge of pursuing excellence and opportunity in business. There are so many potential avenues to explore and ways to improve. My grandfather had a horse farm with dairy cows, and to think that there would come a day when I’m exploring automation, two-dimensional barcodes and robotics is just remarkable. We may be one of the nation’s oldest medical equipment makers but in a lot of ways we’re just getting started. I feel as though we are a 50 year old start-up.

What is the one thing that makes a great leader?

Nothing great is ever accomplished alone, so teamwork is the one thing that makes a leader great; the ability to build, sustain and grow a team that works far better than the sum of its parts. And it just feels better to accomplish great things together.
